Saline Seep

Like many farms in the region, one of our fields is affected by a saline seep where water breaks out on the top of the soil, and when it dries, it leaves behind a crust of salt on the surface, rendering it unable to produce crops. This is the second year we worked with INDHemp and the Montana Salinity Control Association to explore using a hemp crop as a more profitable alternative to alfalfa to reclaim the seep area to productive land. After two years, we have seen little progress in using hemp. We now plan to go back to seeding alfalfa around the seep to solve the problem, as we have done in the past.
